Another great article by Dr Perman to share with you. Enjoy.

Some readers of this column were not around for Neil Armstrong’s historic first step onto the surface of the moon over forty-three years ago, but it was more than just a symbolic gesture — it was raw evidence that human beings are capable of working with and harnessing natural laws.
At a time when modern information technology was still in its early childhood, with home computers and cell phones still fodder for science fiction writers, Neil Armstrong represented the craving we as a people have for progress – and walking on the moon and returning to talk about it, which had seemed impossible until that point, was a critical milestone in the groundswell of scientific research that has occurred over the last four decades.
But Armstrong himself was an unlikely luminary, a self-described “pocket-protector nerd” who tended to shun the limelight. Most don’t realize that his immortal words as he set foot on the moon were misquoted, as he intended, “One small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind” before a broadcast glitch interfered with the transmission. Even so, it became the slogan of a generation of scientists who delved into the mysteries of Nature with passion and the essence of innovation to solve some of our greatest riddles – What lies beyond the sky? What universal principles will help us grasp the vastness of it? How can we use those ideas to grow ourselves and our culture?
It is in this spirit that we say goodbye to Astronaut Armstrong, humble and intelligent, engineer, pilot, college professor and reluctant icon, who tried to fly below the radar in spite of his fame. He leaves a legacy of bravery, imagination and adventure, as the first earthling to visit another heavenly body.
As chiropractors, we might see ourselves as health explorers, as pioneers who are discovering new frontiers of wellness. We can be the trailblazers who clear the way for more people to become healthy and well, by lighting the path and shepherding them toward a more rewarding quality of life.
What may at first seem like pure scientific inquiry takes on relevance as applications appear – it’s the same with the study of the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic. Though it may seem esoteric to some, the practical impact of the chiropractic wellness lifestyle will prove itself out, justifying our investment in our own development and in promoting the benefits of chiropractic care to our sphere of influence, small steps toward wellness which will lead toward a giant leap for our society.
We have an opportunity to be like those intrepid space travelers, standing on the shoulders of those who came before, courageous enough to go where no one else dared to go. We could have faith that our natural rightness will facilitate our safe arrival at our destination, and we could be so determined that nothing could stop us for reaching our objective.
The future of health and wellness depends on our willingness to accept responsibility of this magnitude, partnering with things natural to improve our constituency’s experience of their world. Who knows, you may well be the next modest, self-effacing hero who will inspire people toward a better and more satisfying reality.
