Selah…
A patient of mine who acquired a copy of my Healing Verses of the Psalms book has taken note of the word, Selah. When he shared his appreciation for the word with me, it gave me a greater appreciation for it as well.
In thinking about our summertime, you may like to consider the word for yourself.
Selah is a word of profound weight, found throughout the Psalms and Habakkuk. While its exact linguistic definition is a matter of beautiful mystery, its functional purpose is clear: to pause, to breathe, and to reflectively weigh what has just been spoken.
It is the musical interlude where the instruments quiet down so the truth of the previous verse can settle deeply into the bones.
In a fast-paced, overstimulating world, Selah is an act of deliberate somatic and mental alignment. It is the conscious pause that allows you to step out of the rush, drop into the heart, and let your innate intelligence process the harmony of the moment.
At this time let the pause do its work.
