This past weekend I attended a seminar on the above topic given by Dr. Van Merkle, founder of Science Based Nutrition—Setting the Standard of Objectivity in Nutritional Healthcare. This was my 4th such seminar in the past 5 years.

Since my introduction to this broad topic I have acknowledged its value and these 5 years and ongoing study have provided an increasing sense of mastery in this field.

Here are my notes and some of Dr. Merkle’s words you may appreciate considering.

“If you get healthy enough, does it really matter the name of the disease?
The condition of the body is more important than the name of the disease.
My goal is to get you healthier.

How you feel is no indication of how healthy you are.

Conditions will show in the blood long before you have symptoms.
Earlier you find a problem, the better results you will have.”

It is better to prevent than treat a disease as in preventing a fire as opposed to battling a blaze.

Health is a Relative Experience much more than just not being sick.

Good to take note of signs of decreased health, that you may have been putting up with, that if addressed sooner than later can head off the infirmity of being sick.

Signs such as:

  • Skin problems
  • Bruise easily
  • Finger and toenails ridges, and fungus
  • Eye Floaters
  • Ankle Swelling
  • Decreased memory/concentration
  • Hi Pulse Rate
  • Pain
  • Digestive concerns
  • Coated tongue
  • Fatigue
  • Long term or extended use of OTC drugs
  • Poor Posture

“Where will you be in 5 years if you don’t make some changes?
If you can improve your health 2-3% over 2 to 3 months for 5 years, where will you be?
We are looking for progress not perfection.
Do something today to be healthier than you were yesterday.”

“Don’t rely on the medical community for your long-term health for it is too busy and is largely controlled by what insurance dictates.”

Conventional medicine is focused at addressing ACUTE conditions. HEALTH MINDED practitioners including MD’s, DC’s, DO’s ND’s, etc. are focused at keeping you healthy for the long term as well as enhancing your present day health.

The following is the most significant statement from the seminar that I would encourage you to consider its implications.

The body will breakdown muscle, bones, joints and other nonessential tissue (skin, hair, nails, etc.) to free up nutrients and amino acids for more essential survival functions that includes pH balance, kidneys, liver, and lungs.

This means your  body will sacrifice and breakdown muscle, ligaments, and bone tissue to provide elements to keep your kidneys, liver and lungs properly functioning for SURVIVAL!.  For example, your back or knee pain can be a sign your body is diverting what your joints need to be healthy to your kidneys so they can vitally regulate your pH. In essence, the low-grade signs of ill health you have had can be indications that your body is taking from “nonessential tissues” what they need to provide for “essential tissues” to keep you alive.

Foundational Lab analysis gives us an assessment what your body needs for essential and nonessential tissues to be healthy overall.

In my eyes everyone needs health monitoring utilizing Foundational Lab Testing. This comprehensive assessment includes common tests covered by most insurance as well as less commonly covered “investigational” analysis such as testing for Ferritin, Magnesium, Uric Acid, C-RP, GGT, Creatine Kinase, LDH, Heavy Metals, etc.

This approach gives us a more thorough picture of the conditions of your state of health, so that early signs of imbalance can be discovered and addressed before they erupt into blazing symptoms. And really wouldn’t you rather not be putting up with digestive concerns or any of those other nuisance symptoms that probably seem innocuous?

And even if you have blazing symptoms of poor health the analysis gives us a picture of how we can approach your chronic problem in a healthy way.

Personally speaking, for quite some time I put up with having intestinal problems which escalated into severe joint pain, ulcerative colitis and eventually into colon cancer limiting my capacity to work over a 10 year period and taking me completely out of work for almost 2 years. If I knew then what I know now I would not have had to spend so much time of my life moving through the infirmity of this experience.

What about yourself, what ill symptoms have you been putting up with? I would encourage you to address them sooner than later.

“This is a true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one…I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no “brief candle “to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
-George Bernard Shaw

My Mission and the Torch I carry is to help people set and keep the conditions for whole health, so they in turn can know a state of well-being for themselves and consequently extend the influences of health into the world. And, as more of us know a greater state of well-being so can our collective world.

Yes, consider your health as a vital influence into the world. As we do so it gives us greater conscious leverage in making healthy choices for our individual self and for all of us. Your health makes a DIFFERENCE!

If what I have shared strikes a chord and you feel inspired to take some action relative to your health let me know.

Be glad to help.
